• Web Browsers: Firefox (world’s best) or Google Chrome (world’s fastest) or get both
• Graphic Editors: Paint.NET (easy to use) or The Gimp (bit more advanced) or both
• Picture Viewer: With IrfanView you can quickly scan your pics and optimize them for web use.
  
• Office: OpenOffice which includes a word processer, a spreadsheet, a database, a publisher and a presentation program
• Accounting: GnuCash
• Anti Virus: Avast
• Mail: Yahoo or Google mail (connect anywhere with lost of apps like chat and mobile, why use anything else?)
• Media Player: VLC for all your media files, easy to use and covers most codecs
  
• File and Archive Manager: PeaZip
• File Transport: FileZilla (client and server)
  
• Video Converter: Any Video Converter for tweaking your video files

• PDF Reader: PDF-ExchangeViewer is much faster and less invasive than you-know-who-chews-up-all-your-free-memory
